Simon Gomersall

Lecturer in Historical and Contemporary Mission and Director of Activate (Gap Year Program)

Simon Gomersall

I find some resonance with the old adage, “Jack of all trades, Master of none!” I have previously worked as a high school teacher (across numerous subject areas), a Head of Department, a youth worker, a school chaplain, a university chaplain, a consultant and a pastor. Along the way I managed to pick up post-graduate qualifications in education and theology, at QUT and Oxford University respectively. My wife (a psychologist) and I are deeply committed to a not-for-profit called Outback Futures, innovating the delivery of mental and allied health services to remote Queensland. Now I am lecturing and involved in the adventure of developing a gap year program for Trinity College Queensland. I’m looking forward to figuring out what I am supposed to do with my life when I grow up!

I also find another trusted adage helpful: “Nothing gets wasted in the economy of God.” Woven throughout those varied experiences, God’s tenacious grace has refused to let me settle for too long in one place, creating a breadth of experience out of which I am constantly learning to live missionally within changing contexts. My unchanging passion is empowering and equipping others to do the same.

By the way, my wife and three kids are the great delight of my life, followed by reading, tennis, cricket and old Landrovers.
