SUMMARY:Book Launch and ANZATS presentation
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to a \nBook Launch and ANZATS presentation \nHuman Technological Enhancement and Theological Anthropology\nby Dr Victoria Lorrimar \n  \nThursday 28 April\, 5pm-7pm \nIn person: Trinity College Queensland\, 60 Bayliss Street\, Auchenflower\, QLD \nOnline\, join Zoom Meeting ID: 849 9468 7757\, Passcode: 673538 \n  \nBook Launch & Address \nScience fiction gives us visions of humans who have enhanced abilities as a result of technology\, be that Artificial Intelligence\, genetic engineering or something else.  These ‘techno futures’ are part of our public imagination – and they ask compelling questions about what it means to be human\, and what humans can become. \nThis book asks if there are resources within theology to consider what place technology might have in the future? Might God invite us to partner in an ongoing project of creation\, and can technology find a place in that process? \nLorrimar is interested in what a thoughtful engaging Christian response to technology looks like\, and what role the imagination plays in shaping what it means to be human. \nAnyone who is apprehensive or excited about technological enhancement\, and who has considered its interplay with theology or faith will appreciate Dr Lorrimar’s reflections. \n  \nAbout ANZATS \nDr Victoria Lorrimar is a keynote speaker for the ANZATS ‘Future Theology’ conference\, held from 3-6 July 2022\, in Sydney\, Australia. Dr Lorrimar will draw on her research specialisms in biotechnological human enhancement\, theological anthropology and eschatology to stimulate further conversation and imagination. Willie James Jennings (Yale University) will address questions of race\, theology\, contextuality\, and pedagogy in future perspectives. Papers at the Sydney conference will also be presented in a number of other streams including Bible\, Theology and Practical Ministry. The call for papers can be found at the conference page\, www.anzats.edu.au/conferences/ Abstracts are due by 31 March. \nPlease note: there will be a short business meeting in person and by zoom on 28 April from 4.15 to 4.45 for representatives from the Brisbane colleges and others who are interested\, who would like to discuss further activities for the Brisbane ANZATS theological colleges in Brisbane for this year. \nEnquiries: ask@trinity.qld.edu.au
