Trinity College Queensland has formally farewelled respected lecturer and theologian Associate Professor Neil Pembroke.

Rev Dr Pembroke’s Conclusion of Placement service was attended by more than 50 people at the College on May 27.

Rev Dr Pembroke has had a long connection with the College, serving on the Board of Christian Formation for 10 years, leading the College as Acting Principal and for the past four years lecturing in Practical Theology.

Dr Pembroke served in three placements prior to his role at Trinity, ministering at both the Cairns and Bribie Island parishes, as well as lecturing in Pastoral Studies at Parkin-Wesley College and the Adelaide College of Divinity.

For 19 years, Dr Pembroke worked at the University of Queensland, lecturing on the studies of religion, teaching Christian studies, the psychology of religion and the philosophy of religion.

A prolific researcher, he is the author of multiple books, book chapters and more than 50 journal articles. He has also supervised more than 25 PhD students.

Trinity College Queensland Acting Principal Scott Downman said Neil is an internationally respected scholar and theologian whose research has contributed significantly to the field of Practical Theology.

“Neil is a much loved and respected colleague, teacher and mentor. His contribution to the College has been immense,” Dr Downman said.

“Neil has modelled Jesus in the way he has mentored and invested in his students. He’s also been an incredible mentor to his colleagues and voice of wisdom, grace and humility.

“We pray Neil and Janelle would have a blessed retirement.”

Neil will continue his connection with the College, as the newest member of the Holy Scribblers, who meet weekly in the Trinity Theological Library.

He officially retires on June 12.
