This one-day conference will focus on preaching and worship through biblical reflection, practical teaching and workshops.

Presented by Paul Jones (preaching) and Dom Chan (worship)
Saturday 6 August, 9am to 4pm

The first part of the day, led by Paul, will explore a biblical theology of preaching and the tricky art of illustrating well. Participants will learn to ask appropriate exegetical questions of a biblical passage’s (literary and historical) context and of their own (contemporary cultural) context for the task of sermon preparation, as well as identifying the preachable insight of a given biblical text in a clear, engaging way. We’ll explore the importance of a sermon’s shape or form for effective preaching and learn to recognise and avoid common pitfalls in preaching.

In the second part of the day, Dom will unpack the theology of worship as how the people of God express our understanding of God’s worth, while surrendering and being open to Him.  Dom invites participants to understand worship as a narrative. “I believe worship leaders and worship teams need to communicate with people in such a way that they‘re drawn into that narrative. I want people to workshop and experiment different things; to try things and reflect on them.”
