As part of our Continuing Education for Ministry (CEM) partnership with the Central Queensland Presbytery, Dr Rachel Krohn (Lecturer in Old Testament and Hebrew) took the Psalms on the road — leading a week-long short course filled with Scripture, reflection, creativity, and community connection. Designed for both ministers and laypeople, the course offered a rich exploration of the Psalms through study, art, and shared experience.
Beginning with Psalms 1 and 2, participants memorised Psalm 1—reflecting on the image of the righteous as trees planted by streams of water—and enjoyed a curated playlist of Psalms sung in Hebrew and English.
Throughout the week, they engaged with key Psalms including 8, 19, 51, 110, and 137, delving into themes of creation, repentance, kingship, and learning to love one’s enemies.
Highlights of the week included reflective reading at the Stockman’s Hall of Fame and a painting session with local artist Emma Read, where participants brought Psalm 1’s imagery to life on canvas.
Supported by additional readings and video materials on Moodle, the course was a beautiful reminder that ministry learning can flourish anywhere — even in the heart of the outback!
